| 45 -90 mins | $185 -$255* |
This session, lasting 45-90 minutes, is suitable for individuals and groups of directors. It covers preparing for a performance, including choosing the right event, highlighting strengths, integrating weaker elements, repertoire selection, rehearsal scheduling, routine importance, and the need for authenticity in band preparation for a competition or important event.
This session is suitable for both individuals and small & large groups of directors. Depending upon the number of participants, it is intended that there is open discussion between participants throughout the session. It covers all aspects of preparing for a performance including:
- Choosing the right event (and category) for your band
- Navigating the logistics / possibilities of your chosen event
- How to identify all of the strengths in your group… and then highlight them
- How to find ways to make the seemingly ‘weaker’ elements of your band ADD to the quality of the final product
- Repertoire selection – you need to really know your band before you choose your repertoire
- How to sequence your rehearsal schedule and preparatory performances to have your band “cherry ripe” for their competition /important event performance
- The importance of routine in rehearsals and warm up routines that will assist in a settled and predictable competition/event performance
- “They always rise to the occasion on the day and play better than they ever did in rehearsal” – ……. The world’s riskiest and most unpredictable strategy for ANY performance
- When preparing your band and polishing their program, be authentic. Look into your experiences and knowledge, and influence your band with your creative ideas. Don’t try and play to what you think the adjudicator will like. You’ll almost always present a more coherent program if YOU believe that it has the best artistic intent.
